I would not have chosen to be an academic had I not been lucky enough to be Josef Mazanec's "apprentice". I hope I can pass on my students and colleagues his passion for research, his dedication to rigorous research designs and his intuitive understanding of research integrity long before anyone wrote Codes of Responsible Conduct in Research.
