What is it about?

This study reports on data gathered from community college math instructors to answer the question: What influences faculty expectations for student success in developmental math? Participants' responses revealed that academic policy and student motivation influenced their perceptions and provided strategies to promote student success as part of classroom instruction.

Why is it important?

In contrast to previous research that postures teaching community college developmental math as burdensome or punishment, participants in this study embraced the challenge, acknowledging the unique and leveraging role of developmental math instruction in helping numerous underprepared students navigate college success.
