What is it about?

Is there a connection of physical well-being and even health of cancer patients with their spirituality or religiosity? The paper examines presumed pathways of such a connection like psychosocial and behavioral aspects. E.g. how do spiritual elements like attachment to God, religious practice, commitment and coping, and spiritual experiences correlate with spirtual well-being? Results show how spiritual well-being, together with gratitude and compassion, correlates to the rest of the psychological (positive and negative emotions), social (social support) and behavioral (healthy behaviors) pathways to different extents.

Why is it important?

This paper shows how important it can be for cancer patients in Spain in our particular sample, to consider their spirituality and religiosity for improving their health and quality of life.

Perspectives

Statistical empirical results do not predict the individual case. There is no claim in this paper that patients' spirituality or religiosity would heal them from their disease. The results show the potential and relationship between individuals' practices of faith or spirituality and their spiritual well-being contributing to their quality of life even as cancer patients.
