What is it about?

This article focuses on 3D printing of complex elements, which can be used as instructional aids for students in order to improve efficiency in mechatronics engineering education. In this study, it was emphasized the need to implement numerical algorithms derived from GA as the optimization tool, which is the essential mainstay of any software package for each DfAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) method.

Why is it important?

Developing models for experimental works in mechatronics by means of traditional manufacturing technologies such as machining, forming or molding is rather expensive, and in addition it would be sometimes difficult to feasible. The use of 3D printers is the best choice for creating complex device models, assembled from multiple parts of various shapes that need to be suited to particular tasks with a focus on student learning.

Perspectives

This material can be used to develop laboratory instructions and assignments for students of materials and manufacturing engineering.
