What is it about?

Home-based early intervention brings support into a young child's everyday environment and involves the family directly. This study interviewed eight early intervention specialists in Saudi Arabia who provide services in children's homes, to understand the opportunities and challenges of this approach for young children with disabilities.

Why is it important?

Specialists saw clear benefits, including flexibility, family participation, use of everyday routines and surroundings, and children's developmental progress. They also reported challenges such as high family expectations, gaps in specialists' preparation and training, limited ministry input, lack of family cooperation and transport problems. These insights can help improve home-based early intervention services.

Perspectives

Early intervention delivered at home can make a real difference for young children and their families. I hope this study helps policymakers and providers in Saudi Arabia build on its opportunities and address the challenges specialists face.
