High pressure phase transition in TiOCl and TiOBr

What is it about?

The filling of the Mott–Hubbard gap in TiOCl and TiOBr above a critical pressure Pc is observed, concomitant with a structural phase transition.

Why is it important?

Above Pc a mixture of the ambient-pressure orthorhombic Pmmn phase and a dimerized, monoclinic P21/m phase does exist.
