What is it about?
The paper describes the development of a scale, created from interview-based evidence and prior literature, considering relations between teaching and research. We term the teaching research nexus the teaching research gestalt, reflecting that not all see the relationship as positive or symbiotic.

Why is it important?
It is the first questionnaire-based measure of teaching research relations. Other approaches usually use interview or case study methods.
Perspectives
It is important as it empirically identifies all the key factors that describe the relationship between teaching and learning. It encourages replicability and generalizability.
