What is it about?
To successfully implement Arts Education in Australian schools teachers need to develop a capacity for critically thinking about what they teach and how they teach. Simplistic solutions like searching for online lessons (such as those found on Pinterest-like sites) highlights issues about teachers' capacities to choose material that matches curriculum expectations. To teach the Arts well in schools, teachers need expertise coupled with critical thinking.

Why is it important?
This research - based on the research of doctoral student, Sian Chapman and the article written in collaboration with Dr Peter Wright – gives insight into the difficulties and challenges that have persistently delayed or prevented the implementation of successive attempts to reform arts education in schools
Perspectives
I come to this research as a former Superintendent of the Arts in Western Australia and curriculum policy leader; and as a teacher educator at Murdoch University. My professional life has been focused on writing arts curriculum and implementing it.
