What is it about?

The number of refugees arriving in Europe increased significantly in the last years. Refugees that arrive in the host country need access to information on various topics such as applying for asylum, medical care, educational offerings, jobs, or social activities. But this information is distributed among different stakeholders, making it hard for refugees to get the right information at the right time. Digital platforms can help to bring all relevant stakeholders together to share the relevant information for refugees. In this article, we analyze one example of such a digital platform and discuss how the different stakeholders can be managed on the platform. See https://integreat-app.de/en/ for the project this research was associated with.

Why is it important?

Our work contributes to a challenge that many country face currently - supporting refugees in their daily live. We think that IT can play a major role in doing so, but its potential is far from being exploited.

Perspectives

I think that bringing together research on digital platforms on the one hand and the refugees' challenges on the other hand can lead to exciting outcomes for both research and practice. Digital platforms can not only be used for providing information for refugees but also to help them with finding a job or permanent housing.
