What is it about?

This article reflects on a participatory art and narrative therapy and advocacy project that was held with people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa before there was access to treatment in the public health sector. The project resulted in the creation of self-portraits, often referred to as 'body-maps' and a book publication, Long-Life: Positive HIV stories. This essay critiques the project and offers a reading of the life narratives produced as part of the project.
