What is it about?

Self-regulated learning is crucial to academic success of students. Nevertheless, most previous studies were conducted with students at secondary or tertiary levels. Our study involved a sample of 2972 Hong Kong primary school students and we found that self-regulated learning was predicted by students' previous achievement, their interest in the subject, how they define success, and teachers' feedback.

Why is it important?

The capacity for self-regulated learning is important in the 21 century. Nevertheless, a child does not necessarily become a sophisticated self-regulated learner as long as he/she matures. Instead, formal training is indispensable, thus identifying such predictors of self-regulated learning is imperative for educators.
