What is it about?

How are the aspirations and pathways of school completers (and especially their chances of going to university) affected by their family's socio-economic status? And, given the impact of socio-economic status, what is the role of the school in overcoming disadvantage?

Why is it important?

The study is important because, while acknowledging the impact of disadvantage arising from social status, it firmly asserts the responsibility of schools and education systems to take steps to address disadvantage, ranging from pedagogical to curricular to careers counselling strategies to raise the achievement of all children.
