What is it about?

The Taguchi method was applied to produce high-quality products in a short period of time and with better cost efficiency by applying a combination of experimental and analytical concepts. The method was used to optimize the operating factors of the new efficient homogeneous [Ti(OC4H9)4/TEA/THP/CE] catalyst system for ethylene dimerization. The results were analyzed to determine the percentage of contribution of each experimental variable and identify the more influential factors quantitatively to arrive at a set of conditions that produce optimal YR and WPE values in a shorter time.

Why is it important?

This study was carried out to perform a comprehensive analysis of the main effects of temperature, pressure, Al/Ti, ligand/Ti, and promoter/Ti molar ratios on overall yield of reaction (YR) and weight of polymer (WPE) to determine control of the process according to contribution percentages presented by ANOVA in order to enhance yield and to decrease polymer formation.
