What is it about?

Prolonged teacher learning opportunities that helps them modernize what they know and how they teach it has a direct impact on what students know. Additionally, administrative support and active engagement reinforce teacher learning and has a positive impact on how well teachers implement new ideas. In schools were administrators supported, learned, and was able to communicate about the new expectations, students in their school experienced greater growth in academic learning.

Why is it important?

This is important because schools need to limit the number of new programs and work more a increasing fidelity of implementation and to support teachers to enact better classroom lessons that differentiate instruction and meet student interests.

Perspectives

This research and resulting article brought together a diverse groups of people from several disciplines to explore a fairly complex issue. The results provide one important perspective on why so much money is spent on school reform and new products but all too often they do not result in higher student achievement and then the school administration or school district simply chase the next new thing to fix the issues at hand.
