Incommensurately modulated structure of quininium (R)-mandelate

What is it about?

The organic compound quininium (R)-mandelate exhibits strong satellite reflections up to high order in its diffraction pattern. The structure was first solved in two commensurate approximations.

Why is it important?

After transfer to superspace, the incommensurate structure was refined within the superspace group formalism, using displacive modulation functions.
