What is it about?

We developed a dynamic computer model to simulate and analyse the causes and effects of long-distance travel in Europe. The model was used to assess factors like ageing population, economic growth, technological progress and transport policies.

Why is it important?

While long-distance travel only accounts for a small share of all trips made, it contributes to a large share of distance travelled and to the growing problem of carbon emissions. Hence it is important to understand how socio-demographic and economic developments contribute to long-distance travel and which transport policies can mitigate its negative effects.

Perspectives

I hope this article contributes to a better understanding of the complex dynamics of transport.
