What is it about?
Teachers are using Twitter to support their learning. They are participating in Twitter chats and collaborating with other teachers. They are using information they have learned from Twitter in their classroom teaching.

Why is it important?
More and more teachers are learning from social media. Many of them claim that this is professional development for them. Since billions of dollars are spent on PD for teachers annually, it is important to understand if there could be legitimate uses of social media for teachers' continuous learning. It is also important to recognize some cautions with regard to using Twitter in education. Some of these include ensuring that new ideas adhere to educational theories and are not just fads. Teachers need to be critical of the information they are being exposed to. They also need to be aware of who is making the recommendations to use new digital tools in the classroom. For example, did teachers receive incentives for promoting different tools.
Perspectives
As a teacher who discovered and connected with other teachers via Twitter, I have personally experienced enriching my professional career by using this tool. I was curious about how other teachers were experiencing Twitter and what some of the implications might be for the future of Twitter in education.
