What is it about?
Students with intellectual disability often find it hard to learn new skills using traditional teaching materials alone. This study interviewed special education teachers in the Makkah province of Saudi Arabia about the assistive technology available in their programmes and how they use it to teach these students.

Why is it important?
The teachers were already using assistive technology in their teaching and agreed that it can support students' learning, completion of assignments and engagement. Understanding current practice helps schools and policymakers plan the resources and training needed to make better use of technology for students with intellectual disability.
Perspectives
Technology can open many doors for students with intellectual disability. I hope this study helps schools in Saudi Arabia plan the resources and teacher training needed to make full use of assistive technology.
