What is it about?
This paper was awarded the 2015 HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize. It describes the growth pattern of Hong Kong's overall electricity consumption as the sectoral electricity consumption using 4-parameter logistic models. Besides, it presents a fuel life cycle analysis that determines greenhouse gases emission due to Hong Kong's electricity consumption.

Why is it important?
Understanding the trend and environmental impact of electricity consumption is important. This paper presents mathematical models that describe the growth patterns of the overall and sectoral electricity consumption in Hong Kong.
Perspectives
After forty-some years of economic development, we have witnessed the growth of electricity consumption closely resembling the growth of GDP. It is the right time for us to think about whether we want "sustained development" or "sustainable development".
