Film subtitling is a trending field in translation studies. Many films include linguistic variation but little has been written about it.
Perspectives
While Ellender's book provides valuable insights into translating linguistic variation, I believe that the framework of fictional orality, defined as “any attempt to recreate the language of communicative immediacy in fictional texts” (Brumme and Espunya 2012, 13), offers a more holistic approach.
