What is it about?
Tiny amount of mutations are present even in normal-appearing tissues, and can lead to cancer in the future. A new method to measure such mutations was developed, and mutation accumulation in blood cells after cancer chemotherapy was demonstrated.

Why is it important?
We will be able to choose cancer chemotherapy that induce less mutations and lower risk of secondary cancer. Also, the method will enable measurement of mutations in normal tissues and prediction of future cancer risk. Different from cancer risk prediction by gene polymorphisms, the amount of mutations in normal tissues takes account of our past life.
Perspectives
More safe cancer chemotherapy from viewpoint of secondary cancer will be chosen. Precision cancer risk predication will be realized.
