What is it about?

This study reports the design and implementation of a plant care system that can be carried out remotely via the internet of things (IoT). This study utilizes nutrient film technique (NFT) hydroponic system installed in a greenhouse. Arduino Mega 2560 is used as a controller that monitors parameters like air humidity and temperature, nutrition solution's concentration through TDS, nutrition temperature, nutrition tank's water level through a number of sensors and control actuators like pump, fan, valves to create an optimal environment for the growth of the plant. The system is connected to IoT that enables remote monitoring and intervention.

Why is it important?

The set-up was tested for water spinach and showed 7% heavier fresh weight, 6.35% higher plant height of water spinach, and was free from insect bites compared to those grown outside the greenhouse
