3D temperature and density spatial structures of inertial confinement fusion implosion core plasmas can be extracted by analyzing many 2D space-resolved spectra recorded along three quasi-orthogonal lines of sight.

Why is it important?

Unresolved discrepancies between 3D hydrosimulations and actual hydrodynamics of high energy density (HED) plasmas hinder the inertial confinement fusion ignition. To fully understand the complex HED plasma hydrodynamics, 3D diagnostics is ideal and this technique has potential to investigate the actual hydrodynamics in unprecedented level of details. It is also a new tomography that extract both temperature and density spatial structures simultaneously.
