What is it about?
p-Chloroaniline is one of the banned aromatic amines in azo dyes. Tosylation contributes to separation of the isomeric chloroanilines by GC and differentiation of them by EI-MS. The mechanism of the MS-based differentiation was also investigated by density functional theory calculations.

Why is it important?
This work provides a promising solution for simultaneous and accurate determination of isomeric chloroanilines.
Perspectives
I hope this article remind people that there is potential error in determination of isomeric compounds by GC or GC-MS. Derivatization might be a good solution for this problem.
