What is it about?

We develop theoretical techniques in momentum space to determine critical properties of finite-size systems with periodic and anti periodic boundary conditions in a layered geometry.

Why is it important?

It is the first time that the dimensional crossover is thoroughly discussed using massless and massive fields. Previously, it was commonly accepted that massless fields description would produce inconsistent results due to the belief that the former criterion of dimensional crossover would apply. In this work we develop another criterion of dimensional crossover and show that the previous scaling variable was incorrect to characterize the validity of the epsilon-expansion for finite systems.
