What is it about?
TiO2 is known to be a prototype of photocatalyst. Various useful reactions including degradation of pollutant and water splitting into H2 and O2 occur by light irradiation. Luminescence induced by light irradiation is a minor process but may include various information about photocatalytic reaction mechanism. We studied such luminescence in detail.

Why is it important?
We could measure very weak luminescence from anatase type TiO2 photocatalysts. We found that decay profiles and spectra of the luminescence are different among three different commercial products. Thus, luminescence would be useful to characterize photocatalytic activity.
