What is it about?

Introduction of a control network survey using a laser tracker and a digital level to a linear accelerator for the high energy particle physics is explained. Furthermore, virtual control network survey, which is realized on a simulation, is also introduced.

Why is it important?

In general, configuration of accelerator components in linear accelerator is more complicated and not periodic comparing to ring-type accelerators such as storage rings. In order to precisely align accelerator component in the linear accelerator, optimization of station points and reference control points are important before alignment works. This paper features availability to reduce the error of the control network analysis through a simulation which realizes virtual control network survey. Since there are few papers that systematically summarize surveying techniques in accelerator science, we hope that this paper will be of some help in the construction of the future accelerators.
