What is it about?

Results of the spectral dependence of the first-order molecular hyperpolarizability in literature are scarce by the demand for a high-intensity stable wavelength tunable laser and for the experimental difficulty too. Therefore, we implemented an experimental setup applying a femtosecond tunable laser to measure, for the first time, the spectral dependence of the first-order molecular hyperpolarizability in five cinnamylidene derivatives.

Why is it important?

We found important results about these molecules: a) exists an enhancement of the values at first-order hyperpolarizability (beta) for two-photon absorption resonance for all molecules, b) The strength of electron donor (ED) and withdraw groups( EW) linked at peripheral regions of the main backbone plays a fundamental hole at the values of beta. We find a mathematical relation to preview the values of beta for different strengths of ED and EW for the same main backbone.

Perspectives

Its an important study because we contributed to a scarce topic in the literature
