What is it about?

Extensive research on wake dynamics and its control has been performed on simplified vehicle geometries without wheels. How the wheels play the role in modifying the airflow for more realistic vehicles is worth studying. Besides, it is controversial whether the bi-stable behavior still exists when wheels are added to the simplified vehicle. The current work is to shed some light on these matters.

Why is it important?

The wake bi-stability behind the square-back body can exist not only for a simplified geometry but also for a more realistic car with wheels in real-world upstream conditions.

Perspectives

We hope this article will assist in future development of efficient flow control strategies for more realistic vehicles.
