What is it about?
This paper shows an implementation of ordinal methods on PIC microcontrollers for real-time monitoring of real-life dynamical systems. It shows the efficiency of ordinal pattern-based algorithms for the analysis of complex systems from their output time series.

Why is it important?
The approach here presented allows to quickly assess the internal behaviour of a complex system, and also to monitor internal changes in real time, instead of locally analysing the output as it usually done. This paper constitutes a new step in the research for systematic application of ordinal methods as the user is freed from complex calculations due to the search for optimal parameter setting, thereby simplifying the use of the method for layman.
