What is it about?

Directive enlarged fundamental resonances in photonic crystal resonator eliminate wavevectors in the corresponding directions and steer energy flow in the right directions. A prototype of photonic crystal directive antenna was constructed, and directional radiations have been confirmed in the microwave.

Why is it important?

We provided a novel strategy to realize directional radiations based on photonic lattice induced fundamental resonance. This is important in directive antennas, point-to-point terrestrial and space communication, and broadcast communication satellite. The iconic features of compact structure, simple fabrication process, and high directivity make it portable and suitable in applications of remote sensing and wireless communication.
