What is it about?

Tunnel junctions play a vital role in constructing a multijunction photovoltaic cell but how to measure them in the cell is a challenge. We have provided for the first time a method to measure the peak currents of all the tunnel junctions in a cell and determine the corresponding relationships between those peaks and tunnel junctions in the decive, by just measuring the wide voltage range I-V curves of the photovoltaic cell.

Why is it important?

Our findings solved the problem of meausing elements serially connected in a two-terminal device, this would deepen our insight into the multijunction photovoltaic devices.

Perspectives

The findings in this work are all occasional, but they are so charming and meanwhile confusing. It took me almost half a year to think about the explanations of these phenomena. Finally, we have built a pefect model to simulate the experimental results. Although this article looks lengthy, but the behavior of the tunnel junction in a multijunction photovoltaic cell is firstly reported and can provide a new insight for you in the field of photovoltaics.
