What is it about?

A 3D model recreates a highway underpass to evaluate stopping sight distance and passing sight distance by means of a GIS-based application. The model combines a digital elevation model and a multipatch 3D feature class.

Why is it important?

This study proposes a fully-3D method to evaluate sight distance of highway underpasses and other sight-distance-related issues, providing high accuracy. It avoids the use of 2D closed-form methods to estimate sight distance.

Perspectives

This work brings highway invetories and the BIM methodology close together.
