What is it about?

This paper presents a new questionnaire to help speech-language pathologists and others working with gender diverse clients on gender-affirming communication care. This builds on the original version of the Communicative Participation Item Bank (CPIB), with new item wording and scoring guide for gender-diverse clients.

Why is it important?

This outcome measure can be used to determine degree of difficulty with communication and any progress made with treatments or therapies.

My goal is to use this tool to better understand how the presentation of gender in facial features can impact an individual’s comfort and participation in communication.
