What is it about?

This study looked at children's language (grammar) skills in Jamaican Creole (JC) and English using an assessment called the Index of Productive Syntax (IPSyn; Scarborough, 1990). The IPSyn is a tool developed to examine children's skills in English, but it was tested with examining children's skills in JC in this study. The children in this study were bilingual and used JC and English and their skills in both of their languages was examined.

The IPSyn shows promise as an assessment that can be used to describe grammatical skills in typically developing bilingual Jamaican preschoolers.
