What is it about?
Uvacalols are biologically active and important natural products present in nature in very minute quantities. As Isolation is difficult for any practical use, their synthesis is essential. We have achieved the first synthesis of five Uvacalols from a cheap starting material.

Why is it important?
By this study, we have proved that proposed structures of three of these molecules are correct and that of two molecules are wrong. So a structural revision is warranted for further studies
Perspectives
This is the first synthesis of these molecules from the cheaply available mannitol. This cheap synthesis allow further biological studies with these molecules.
