Why is it important?

Traumatic events are increasing as is the knowledge about the consequences of these events for people, their families and community. With greater knowledge about the universality of trauma, the causes and consequences of trauma and especially the road to resilience following recovery in the world the better .

Perspectives

The article described the undergraduate trauma courses. Those courses emerged from entries in the first interdisciplinary encyclopedia of trauma, many of which were relevant to our experiences in New Orleans due to the 2005 hurricane and the subsequent Federal levee system failure that flooded the City. Tulane University and other universities directed affected were closed and students spent a semester elsewhere at no charge for tuition. This article describe one of many lessons learned that can apply to other universities and other disaster torn communities.
