Why is it important?

Research regarding male MST is a relatively recent development even though sexual trauma experienced by men has been documented throughout history. Much of the previous MST research has been conducted on predominantly female samples, and although research addressing female veterans is critical, attention to male veterans is also needed to help inform prevention and intervention methods.

Perspectives

As a psychologist working at a VA hospital, this research helps to fill the gap in the MST literature. The hope is that more research will look at the unique impact sexual trauma has on our male veterans.
