What is it about?
Impulsivity in ADHD is often considered to be due to difficulties in inhibiting inappropriate automatic and prepotent responses but our study investigates whether children with ADHD also present a greater propensity to activate automatic responses.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that impulsivity and hyperactivity could be due to both a greater propensity to activate impulsive responses and a greater difficulty in inhibiting them.
Perspectives
Thanks to the methods used in the present study and the results we obtained, we are now able to more precisely investigate the effect of different treatments (pharmacological or not) on these two components of impulsivity control. Although children with ADHD demonstrated impairment in both processes, it is possible that treatments differentially affect one of the two processes, which could shed light on the heterogeneity of treatment response.
