What is it about?

People who report 0 stress - not 1 minor daily stressor in their lives across 8 days - had lower cognitive functioning (as measured by a 15 minutes cognitive battery administered over the phone) than those who report at least 1 daily stressor.

Why is it important?

Everyone knows that stress is bad, but there is a upside about facing small, manageable challenges in life. They make us have to think and problem-solve, and keeping our mind active to these challenges may be beneficial to our brain health.

Perspectives

Small daily hassles may have an upside. Of course, this does not apply to chronic stress- stress that occurs daily - or to major life events. These findings indicate that a full life that includes some challenges may be good for our cognition.
