What is it about?
We created a scale that examines experiences while viewing art that is based on flow theory (Csikszentmihalyi, 1990) and previous work by Csikszentmihalyi and Robinson (1990). Experiences viewing art can be flow-like experiences such that viewers get absorbed by the experience and lose sense of self and time. Our scale measures these experiences, as well as the art-like experiences that come with viewing art, such as perceptions, emotions, and more.

Why is it important?
Few scales exist that measure experiences people have while viewing art. To increase the study of experiences viewing art--for example, how do these experiences lead to increased well-being?--it was an important first step to create a scale that could measure these experiences.
