What is it about?

Time is precious. How one spends one's time is very important for the psychological health of people, especially for people with severe mental disorders such as Schizophrenia. Our study found that patients diagnosed with schizophrenia spend many hours of the week "doing nothing", either in sedentary, religious, or leisure activities rather than productive activities (such as working, studying, and housework). Moreover, we found that patients who spend more hours in sedentary activities are also the ones who are more severe from a clinical and relational/social point of view.

Why is it important?

This study is important in providing useful feedback for mental health practitioners and mental health systems. People suffering from serious mental disorders such as schizophrenia need to be stimulated and followed in structuring their daily time, in order to have positive outcomes on psychological and relational/social health.
