What is it about?

This paper examines mixtures of ionic liquids. Ionic liquids are relatively new and have the potential to be very useful in electrochemical applications (e.g. batteries, solar cells, fuel cells). Very few ionic liquids have shown to be commercially viable, and there is extensive research into finding new ionic liquids with the right properties. This paper examines mixtures of ionic liquids, which could be made to tune the properties of the material and make it more useful

Why is it important?

This paper shows that the properties of several new mixtures of common ionic liquid can be reasonably accurately predicted from the already known properties of the pure compounds. This gives researchers a way to predict properties of mixtures and help guide research into new materials.
