What is it about?

In this article, we talk about five new ternary and one double multicomponent crystals of ciprofloxacin with salicylic acid. In addition, we found two polymorphs: [CIP+SA+H2O] (1:1:1) Form I and [CIP+SA+H2O] (1:1:1) Form II, one of which is displaying “disappearing polymorph” behavior. However, we managed to obtain a vanishing polymorph using method mechanochemistry and DVS experiments.

Why is it important?

This is important because endangered polymorphs are a headache for both scientists and the pharmaceutical industry.

The prospects are clear. You can return polymorphs that were previously lost and study them. Moreover, it is important for the pharmaceutical industry, which is losing a lot of money due to this phenomenon. Finally, it is important for patent litigation.
