What is it about?
Final conversations go beyond how patients want to be cared for at the end of life (EOL) and focus on messages of love, identity of self and of the relationship with the person who is dying, everyday talk that normalizes a difficult situation, religious/spiritual messages, and if needed, difficult relationship talk to heal broken relationships. The purpose of the Catalyzing Relationships at the End of Life (CAREol) program was to use forum theatre simulation in the education of nursing and medical students and clinical faculty.

Why is it important?
End of life education in medical and nursing schools is sparse and providing this education helps the students to develop professional resilience and improve their awareness of the needs of families their loved one who is dying.
Perspectives
The CAREol program has been a powerful experience for many students and faculty. We are expanding our reach with this program to reach all health care disciplines. The forum theatre format for the simulation allows the audience (students) to interact with them and change the course of care for the patient and their family.
