Why is it important?
So far piezophotonics and piezophototronics predominantly used III-Nitrides and ZnO to demonstrate prototype devices. This meant that only visible or UV detectors/LED could be readily demonstrated. Now instead one could also add the IR spectrum to the UV (and visible) functionality.
Perspectives
Hopefully it will offer new areas of interest in piezotronics
