What is it about?
We studied the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of 4, 5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one and its major 2 metabolites following intramuscular administration of 4, 5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one to rats. The results show that 4, 5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one is rapidly absorbed and widely distributed in the selected tissues. Furthermore, the pharmacokinetics of 4, 5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one is characterized by the first order kinetics. The level of 4, 5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one in liver is the highest and those in the other tested tissues were much lower and comparable.

Why is it important?
In this study, a validated LC–MS/MS method was successfully applied to study the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of 4,5-dimethoxycanthin-6-one and its major metabolites M1 and M2 in rats
