What is it about?
Joining two polymers by a laser is a challenge. Here in this paper we suggest a method for calculating if two different polymers can join. Calibrations and measurements provide a limit for weldability.

Why is it important?
There are numerous different plastics around. And all products consist of components that must be assembled into a final product. here laser welding of polymers is a very attractive method - it is flexible and allow a fast and high production rate.
Perspectives
The physics behind this paper can be applied to many other fields where mobile macro molecules will be in contact.
