What is it about?

Numerous studies investigated the effect of stretch-shortening exercise training (SSC training) but the mechanism of how it changed the characteristics of the SSC moment-time curve and contraction velocity is unknown. Here, we examined changes in knee extensors’ SSC properties in response to unilateral SSC exercise training.

Why is it important?

Our results may indicate that SSC training added to an athletes’ regular trainings may not selectively increase the stiffness of type II muscle fibers. Furthermore, short-range stiffness moment only slightly increased in the experimental group, which raises the idea that passive muscle elements may have no role in the development of reactive strength training.
