What is it about?
Relations between writing and translating. Writing as a major part of the translational competence. The issue of Forum shows to what extent writing is a key competence of translation. It is displayed in various situations ranging from online banking, website localisation and knowledge circulation platforms to exhibition descriptions among others. Writing in translation may appear as a compromise between various constraints (text-type, rhetorics and communication principles and objectives) and creativity.

Why is it important?
Little has been written on writing as such in the Translation Studies field so far. Articles published in this issue draw on various theoretical frameworks and backgrounds and display a wide range of settings calling for different uses and manners of writing and translating.
Perspectives
This issue is only the first part of a twofold publication. With approximately twenty articles on the whole, readers will be offered a wide overview of how writing is viewed in many circles and institutions, how it is taught in various translation curricula and how it is practised in compliance with sometimes convergent and sometimes divergent objectives.
